November's art exhibits, which include oil pastels, oil paintings, and photography are a celebration of Native American Heritage Month and our connection to the natural world.
Art is available for viewing during regular library hours and can be found throughout the building. Viewers are encouraged to leave written comments for the artists in the binder located in the Fireplace Room.
Thank you to Brandi, Kim, and Jim for displaying their artwork at HPL. Special thanks to Teresa Nguyen and JATV Media Services for the interviews that let us learn more about each of the artists and their inspirations.

Brandi Martinez
Brandi Martinez uses oil pastels to create her lovely pieces that reflect her respect for nature. As a nature enthusiast, she also uses her artwork to raise awareness of the importance of native plants to a fragile ecosystem. Brandi believes "in the power of art to inspire practical and responsible land stewardship through joy." You can watch Brandi's Meet the Artist interview here.
Kim Hoholek
This is Kim Hoholek's third year with a photography exhibit for Native American Heritage Month at the library. Kim's exhibit is not only beautiful but also educational. This year's theme is Water (Nibi) is Life which highlights the importance and sacredness of water. Kim has worked closely with many of the Native American Nations in Wisconsin and received special permission to photograph cultural events and locations that are sacred to their communities. She has dedicated this exhibit to her elder and teacher, Skip "Two Doors" Twardosz, who passed away one year ago. Learn more in her Meet the Artist interview.
Kim's exhibit was also recently featured on WTMJ-TV out of Milwaukee. You can watch it here.
Jim Richter
While the artwork of Jim Richter can include many themes, his exhibit at HPL this month mostly includes examples of his oil paintings of nature. His painting Winds of Change draws you in and you can almost hear the wind blowing through the grasses. You can feel the warmth of the autumn sun in some of his paintings and smell the sweet aroma of flowers in others. Jim shares more about his artwork in his Meet the Artist interview.
