Interlibrary Loan

Materials not available in HPL’s library catalog may be available from another library through interlibrary loan. For assistance with an interlibrary loan, visit the Checkout Desk, call 608-758-6600, or use the patron-initiated interlibrary loan service.

How To Request an Interlibrary Loan

  1. Check SHARE Catalog to make sure the item is not available from HPL or another library in the SHARE system. If the item is available through SHARE, no interlibrary loan request will be made.
  2. Open WISCAT, the statewide library catalog. On the upper right corner of the screen, click Login.
  3. Select Janesville Hedberg Public Library. Type your library card barcode in the Username box, and your SHARE password in the Password box.
  4. Search for the item you wish to request. Once you find it, click Request this Item. The request form will auto-fill with information from your library account.
  5. For Audio-Visual materials, type the format (CD, DVD, VHS, abridged, unabridged) in the Notes field.
  6. Click Submit

If you have trouble logging in, or if you can't find the item you need using WISCAT, call 608-758-6600. Other options may be available.

Anyone may use their own library card to request items through Interlibrary Loan. The card must be in good standing and have current telephone or email contact information.

Allow two to four weeks to fill requests. Some requests may take longer.

If the item is available through SHARE, it typically cannot be requested through Interlibrary Loan. Please talk to library staff if you think an exception is warranted.

Due dates are set by the lending library. Checkout periods vary. Check your due date carefully.

Renewals are made at the discretion of the lending library. Submit a renewal request by calling 758-6598 Monday-Friday 9 am- 4 p.m. or visit the Checkout Desk. Request renewals at least two days prior to the due date. Interlibrary Loan staff will notify you whether or not the renewal was granted.

Return items to library staff at Hedberg Public Library’s Checkout Desk only. Do not return in book drop or indoor automated return. Interlibrary loan items requested through HPL must be returned to HPL and cannot be returned to other libraries.

HPL is a fines free library.  Items checked out at HPL, even if it’s from another library, will not accrue fines as long as the items are returned. You will still be responsible for the cost of lost or damaged items.

If an ILL item is damaged or lost, Hedberg Public Library receives a bill from the lending library. This bill may be considerably higher than the original cost of the item. The patron is responsible for the entire amount charged by the lending library, including any processing fees or miscellaneous charges.
