Ink is the Theme for February's Self-Taught Artists

February art exhibits at Hedberg Public Library include alcohol ink paintings on glass and acrylic ink and pint on canvas. Both artists use deep, rich colors to craft their beautiful pieces.

Art is available for viewing during regular library hours and can be found throughout the building, including our new art space that we call the Gallery, located just past the Atrium as you walk toward the skylight. Viewers are encouraged to leave written comments for the artists in the binder located in the Fireplace Room.

Alcohol Ink on Glass by Jennifer Sturgeon
FIREPLACE ROOM CASE

Jennifer is self-taught and loves using the vibrant colors that are possible with alcohol ink. After discovering alcohol ink about seven years ago, it has become her medium of choice. She uses her skill to create pieces that show movement and draw in the viewer to the abstract details of each one. We are happy to have Jennifer's exhibit here at HPL to show art lovers and novices to the art world alike a new medium that they may enjoy.

Acrylic Ink and Paint by Kath Brinkman
GALLERY, FIREPLACE ROOM, ART WALL

Kath's art journey began more than 20 years ago when she was homeschooling her 4 children, and she first realized that she loved drawing. Kath is colorblind and is willing to explore new media to find something she enjoys and connects with. She is starting to work with watercolors and also enjoys using acrylic ink. Her art has depth that is achieved by utilizing mixed media for the background and detail of some of her pieces. With all the different subjects for her artwork, there is bound to be something for everyone.

Thank you to Kath and Jennifer for sharing their artwork with the staff and public at HPL. Special thanks to Teresa Nguyen and JATV Media Services for the interviews that let us learn more about each of the artists and their inspirations.
