What draws people to the library? Everything! From books and digital resources to job assistance and creative programming, libraries are essential to thriving communities. Whether you’re preparing for a career change, launching a business, raising a family, or embracing retirement, HPL is here to support your journey. Tell us what draws you to the library!
First celebrated in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance, April 7-12, 2025, sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries of all types across the country each year. It is a time to celebrate the many ways libraries bring people together, spark imagination, and support lifelong learning. No matter if you're a longtime patron or haven’t visited in a while, now is the perfect time to explore all your library has to offer! The dedicated staff at HPL work hard to ensure everyone in our community has access to resources that educate, inspire, and connect.
Here are just a few of the things you can explore at your library in April:
April is National Poetry Month and we are celebrating with Poetry Pathway--a collaborative project with Hedberg Public Library, Janesville Parks and Recreation, and you! During the month of April, ages 12 and up are invited to submit an original poem for a chance to be one of eight that are printed on signs and installed along the Ice Age Trail in Palmer Park over the summer. Submit your poem here beginning April 1.
Wednesday, April 9 is National Library Outreach Day, a day to celebrate library outreach and the dedicated library professionals who are meeting their patrons where they are. The HPL Bookmobile will be parked in the Circle Drive from 9-11 a.m. Stop by, say hello, take a tour, and find out where we’ll be all summer long!
Peeps-O-Rama is back! Use your imagination, skills, and at least one Peeps® mallow to create a diorama with a unique take on a book, movie, pop culture, or anything that inspires you. Entries may be dropped off during library hours beginning April 9 until 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 12. Then, stop by the Children's Room from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, April 12 to vote for your favorite.
Stop in to the library, visit our calendar, or explore the website to learn more about all the reasons our community is drawn to HPL!
