The Hedberg Public Library Seed Library is OPEN!
Each year, the Seed Library is stocked with a variety of seeds that are FREE to patrons. No library card or check out is required. We ask that you take what you need to plant your garden and leave the rest so that others may plant and grow as well. If you need assistance, or have questions, please see our Public Services staff.
This year the Seed Library has over 2,000 packets of seeds in 60 varieties. There are carrots, corn, beets, beans, pumpkins, and much more. You can also find Wisconsin planting guides in the Seed Library section of the library including information about our Grow Zone and Companion Planting charts to help you achieve great growth.
Funding for the Seed Library is provided by The Friends of Hedberg Public Library.
Cornerstone of Hope Partnership
The seeds are provided by our local partner, Cornerstone of Hope. Cornerstone of Hope sells seeds to everyone so be sure to buy local to supplement your garden! It is a non-profit that focuses on education of and access to growing food and how that can support your family and community. Cornerstone of Hope will also help you set up your own garden in your yard under its program "Produce for Pantries" to help grow food to donate to local food pantries. Cornerstone of Hope partners frequently with the library for educational gardening programs, the Seed Library, and more! Thank you, Cornerstone of Hope, for being an amazing source of knowledge and initiative! Learn more about Cornerstone of Hope and its offerings by visiting its website.
One Seed One Wisconsin
Hedberg Public Library also participates in the One Seed One Wisconsin program through the Prairie Lakes Library System. This year's seed feature is "Melon - Cantaloupe - Pride of Wisconsin." There are over 500 packets of this available. Prairie Lakes shares the year's featured seeds throughout all of its participating libraries.
