April is National Poetry Month and we are celebrating for the third year with Poetry Pathway!
Poetry Pathway is a collaborative project with Hedberg Public Library, Janesville Parks and Recreation, and you the Janesville citizens and poets! During the month of April, citizens ages 12 and up are invited to submit an original poem to the library. These poems will have a chance to be one of eight that are printed on signs and installed along the Ice Age Trail in Palmer Park over the summer. This way, citizens of all ages can enjoy the nature trail and read the poetry of their community members. It is a great way to get outside, move your body, and nurture your brain--all in one outing!
Submit your poem here: Submission Form or visit the Hedberg Public Library to fill out a paper form. Submissions are due by the end of the day Tuesday, April 30th. All submitted poems will be printed and made into a zine that will be available in the library to read and enjoy.
Multiple entries are permitted but no poet will have more than one poem selected to printed along the pathway itself. Poets whose poems are printed on signs, will have the opportunity to collect their signs at the end of the year. They will be notified via email when they are down.
Teen Poet Honors Grandfather
Last year, one of our special poets was teen Josephine. Her poem started off as an English assignment, but grew into something much more. Her poem about her grandpa, who passed away last year, was also used at his Celebration of Life Ceremony. Josephine said it was very special to see her poem in the park and honor her grandpa in a unique way.
HPL's Own Featured on Pathway
Another of our pathway poets was the library's own staff member, Judi. Judi enjoys writing poetry in her free time and making even the simple parts of life seem special and beautiful with an added rhyme or two.
