Presented by author Bill Gillard.
Join us as we kick off NaNoWriMo. In this workshop, participants will look at successful short story openings from a variety of genres to discover how to craft an opening that a reader or editor will want to continue reading after the first page--which is our goal, after all! This session will be focused on the reading and writing skills of fiction writers. Specifically, we'll look at successful story openings by early-career writers to learn what makes these openings sing. Participants will get the chance to practice what we've learned.
An open writing time will be available following the workshop until 4:00 p.m.
Bill Gillard is an award-winning teacher of creative writing and literature at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh and author of eight books, including poetry collections, a short story collection, a novel, and a scholarly monograph.
