Quest Con: Virtual Edition - August 3-8

We can't celebrate quite like we've done in the past,  but we're still ready to
GEEK OUT for Quest Con 2020. Our 7th annual celebration of pop culture is going VIRTUAL!

COSTUME CONTEST - July 31-August 7*
OPEN TO ALL AGES
Submit a photo of you, a family member, or the entire family dressed up as your favorite characters from movies, TV, comics, or video games! Cosplay verteran? Store-bought or handmade Halloween costume? Yes and yes! All ages and skill levels welcome.

Fill out an entry form and upload a photo.
We'll share submissions on social media and announce the winners at the end of the week!
*Photos must be submitted by 1 p.m. on Friday, August 7.

FAN ART CONTEST - August 1-28
OPEN TO ALL AGES
Submit a photo or scan of a work of art inspired by your favorite book, movie, game, comic or television show. Submissions must be original works of art made by YOU! All types of art and skill levels are welcomed and encouraged!

We'll share submissions on social media and announce the winners on August 31!

FAVORITE FANTASY CHARACTER CHALLENGE - August 3-8
FOR ALL AGES
Participants in this year's Summer Library Challenge nominated and voted for their favorite fantasy character. Are you ready to know who won? Stay tuned all week for challenges and prompts to celebrate the favorite character!

MONDAY, August 3

Princess Story Time with Elsa & Belle for kids
10 a.m.

Grab your tiaras and a cup of tea, it's time for a story with Elsa and Belle. This royal pair will be sharing their favorite fairy tales with all the princes and princesses of the land.

Dungeons & Dragons Character Creation for all ages
3 p.m.
FACEBOOK LIVE
Join Claire as she shows you the basics in character creation on DnD Beyond. Learn all you need to know to make a one of a kind character to begin your first quest with a live creation tutorial and Q&A.

Star Wars Hour of Code   recommended for kids ages 6-11 
4 p.m.
MS TEAMS
Use code.org's Hour of Code to learn to program droids, and create your own Star Wars game in a galaxy far, far away. A device is needed to video conference using Microsoft Teams and to access code.org from a web browser. A computer with a webcam can do both simultaneously, or you may choose to use two separate devices. Registration is required and limited to 10 participants. Register online or call the Children's Desk at 608-758-6585.


TUESDAY, August 4

Craft Along with Miss Camille for kids
10 a.m.
FACEBOOK & YOUTUBE PREMIERE
Learn how to use the supplies in your Quest Con Kit (available at the Children's Desk or through Curbside Pick-UP) to make a clothespin superhero and a paper plate BB8. Our how-two videos will explain everything!

Dungeons & Dragons One Shot Campaign  for adults

Ever wondered where to begin questing in the worl dof D&D? Watch our librarianas and their friends adventure their way through a campaign.


WEDNESDAY, August 5

Family Trivia Night for all ages
6:30 p.m.
KAHOOT AND MS TEAMS
Does your family have what it takes to beat the competition? Join us for a virtual family-friendly trivia night. Prizes are available for the top three finishing teams who can pick them up at the library (at the Children's Desk or via Curbside Pick-Up). Registration is required. Limited to 20 families. Register online or call the Children's Desk at 608-758-6585.

The trivia questions will also be available after the live event for families who wish to play for fun, however no prizes will be offered after the live event. Two devices are recommended (One for opening the program on Microsoft Teams-computer, and one with Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge-tablet or smartphone to access Kahoot).

Storytime with the 501st for kids

Watch social media for a fun storytime with members of the Wisconsin Garrison 501st Legion!

501st Legion Panel Discussion for all ages
6 p.m.

The 501st Legion - aka Vader's Fist - is an international Star Wars costuming organization. Members construct and wear screen-accurate costumes of villains from the Star Wars universe and actively support a variety of community and charitable causes. Meet some of the members of the Wisconsin Garrisons as they share why they got involved, how they create their costumes, and other details about their life in the 501st.


FRIDAY, August 7

Grown-Up Nerd Trivia for adults
6 p.m.
KAHOOT & FACEBOOK LIVE
Join us in an all out nerd trivia night. Books, TV, Comics, Anime and More. You know it? You can win sweet geek swag! Registration required.


SATURDAY, August 8

Virtual Escape Room: The Reactor Code for all ages
9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
MICROSOFT TEAMS
You have 25 minutes to find the code to stop a reactor from exploding and prevent the destruction of an entire planet. Are you ready? Fun for all ages, though younger players may need some help from a grown-up. Registration is required. Call 608-758-6600 to secure a time slot. Up to 5 households can register to do the escape room together virtually. All time slots available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Devices must have a microphone and camera. Desktop, laptop or tablet recommended. Smaller mobile device screens may be difficult to see.
