About SmartAlec

Printing is available using SmartAlec by Comprise Technologies for Windows, macOS, Chromebooks, Android and iOS devices. Android and iOS require free apps available at the Google Play or App Store.

Printing costs $.25 per page for black and white and $.50 for color. Print documents using funds from your SAM account at either Library Convenience Center located near the Information Desk or Youth Services Desk. If you need to add funds to your SAM account please visit any public service desk.

Getting Started with SmartAlec

Visit the SmartAlec page to review your account.
Register for an account by clicking "First Time User", or click "Log in" if you have an account.

First time users will need their library card number, an email address* or cellphone number* and create a PIN to finish registration.

If you have forgotten your password click "Forgot Password" on the login screen to receive instructions via email or text message.

From the Account Info page you can manage your account, upload, preview, delete, and reprint documents. If you need to download the SmartAlec app for iOS or Android, links to the App Store and Google Play are available as well.

Once you have uploaded documents you must print them before the Expiration Date. Once documents expire they are deleted from the system and cannot be recovered.

Windows, macOS, Chromebooks and Linux Instructions

  • Login to your SmartAlec Account from your device. New: You can login to SmartAlec and upload documents from anywhere, not just at the library. Items will be ready for you to print when you visit!
  • Upload documents from your computer using the "Choose File" button then browse to your file. Note: Only pdf, doc, docx, xls, xlsx, ppt, pptx, csv, txt, html, rtf, jpg, png, and bmp files are supported.

  • Click the Upload button to send the file to SmartAlec.

  • Confirm the file has uploaded successfully.
  • Print documents at the library by logging into a Library Convenience Center located near the Information Desk or Youth Services desk.
  • Documents will automatically be deleted from SmartAlec when they reach the Expiration Date,seven days from when they were uploaded, and are not recoverable once deleted.
  • If you need additional copies, click the + near Printed Documents for a list of files to reprint.

Android Phones and Tablets

  • Create your SmartAlec Account from your device.
  • Install and start the SmartAlec app.


  • Enter your library barcode number and PIN, then click Sign In.
  • If you are unable to log in from the app, visit the SmartAlec site to review your account.



  • You may receive a notification to enable the SmartAlec printer. Turn the printer "On" at this screen or enable the printer via the Menu option in the app you are printing from.
  • Any documents available to print will be listed.



  • Choose the Print menu option from your app. If you don't see Print, try Share.





  • Select the SmartAlec printer



  • Press the printer icon and documents will be sent to SmartAlec for printing.
  • Print documents at the library by logging into a Library Convenience Center located near the Information Desk or Youth Services desk.
  • Documents will automatically be deleted from SmartAlec when they reach the Expiration Date, seven days from when they were uploaded, and are not recoverable once deleted.
  • If you need additional copies, click the + near Printed Documents for a list of files to reprint.
  • Please refer to your device manual or online documentation for additional details.

iOS Phones and Tablets

  • Create your SmartAlec Account from your device.
  • Install and start the SmartAlec app.



  • Enter your library barcode number and PIN, then click Sign In. If you are unable to log in from the app, visit the SmartAlec site to review your account.



  • Any documents available to print will be listed.



  • Press the "Home" button on the device to return to your home screen.
  • To print use the "Share" feature from the application menu of any application and select the SmartAlec icon.
  • Documents will be sent to SmartAlec for printing.

    If SmartAlec is not visable, click the "More" button in the Activities (top) row, find SmartAlecPrint and move the slider to the right. Click Done.

  • Print documents at the library by logging into a Library Convenience Center located near the Information Desk or Youth Services desk.
  • Documents will automatically be removed from SmartAlec when they reach the Expiration Date and are not recoverable.
  • If you need additional copies, click the + near Printed Documents for a list of files to reprint.
