Students in grades 6-12 have an opportunity to practice efficiency, promptness,
self-confidence, and patience, as well as to develop responsibility by becoming volunteers. As teens
form new friendships and have fun, they also become more aware of the library
as a valuable resource in their lives.
The mutual benefits are
many. Teens learn job skills and develop a sense of community involvement.
At the same time, they relieve library staff of some time-consuming tasks
and enhance the library's commitment to friendly service.
Sample
projects:
Assisting with the Summer Library Program
Keeping books and magazines tidy in YA area
Serving refreshments at library events
Maintaining book displays
Teens may help with a short, one-time project or become involved as ongoing volunteers. The time
commitment and hours are flexible. Most volunteer opportunities are available during the summer, however limited openings are available during the school year. Young adults who are interested in volunteering at the library can fill out an application at the Service Desk or call 758-6585.
Calling all middle and high school students! Young adults like you rate your own area at the library. It's a place with comfy chairs, a window view,
computers and plenty of books and magazines. Stop in!
