Local Children Inspire Park Art
Artist Richard Taylor installed three new sculptures in the Downtown
Riverfront Park adjacent to Hedberg Public Library in September 2004.
The sculpture Cards in my Spokes was inspired by the following area
children who submitted drawings at the library about their favorite
book: Sierra Doucette, My Many Colored Days; Bethany Wegleitner, The
Lion King; Nathan Hoag, Harry Potter; Jordan Helsinger, How the Grinch
Stole Christmas; Gavin Dillavou, Big Bad Wolf is Good; Drew Whittaker,
Harold and the Purple Crayon; Allison Calkins, Franklin and the Tooth
Fairy; McKenzie Beals, The Wide-Mouthed Frog; and Jennifer Wesson, I
Love You Mama.
The sculpture Sugar Sandwich was inspired by the following children’s
works: Troy Lipker, The Flying Dragon Room; Raquel Cooper, Peter Pan;
Michelle Langklotz, The Rainbow Fish; Alexandra LaPointe, Silly Sally;
Matthew Tracey, The Three Little Pigs; Devon Brunsell, Click, Clack,
Moo: Cows That Type; Madelynn Schultz, Copy Me Copycub; and Rebecca
Shilts, Happy Birthday Lulu!
A smaller sculpture entitled Shiny New Lunchbox was inspired by book
illustrations from the following children: MaCenzie Schroeder, Corduroy;
Ben Robinson, Arthur; Alex Janssen, The Wizard of Oz; and Emily
Richardson, The Kissing Hand.
The Downtown Riverfront Park is a community project spearheaded by the
Friends of Hedberg Public Library and the Janesville Noon Lions Club.
