Donations of Used Materials
The library accepts used book donations both for the library's collection and on behalf of the Friends of HPL, who operate a used book store in the lower lobby of the library. Reader's Digest condensed books, textbooks and books in poor condition are not accepted. Books may be left at the The Ground Floor desk. Videos, music CDs and books on tape are also accepted, as long as they are in good condition.
Magazines, including "National Geographic," are not usually accepted. Exceptions might be better magazines on popular topics such as cooking and travel. Check with The Ground Floor Manager.
Donated materials are inspected by staff first, who select items suitable for the library collection. Donors may be given a receipt for such gifts, but the library does not give appraisals of value. Gifts are not returned to the donor.
Donations of New Materials
If you would like to donate money for the purchase of books or other materials, ask a staff member to help you complete a donor gift form. In general, the library prefers not to have specific items designated. A broad subject area or type of material is the preferred designation. Checks should be made payable to the HPL Foundation. The library selects and orders magazine subscriptions using special procedures. Gifts of magazine subscriptions are not accepted.
Memorials and Financial Gifts
The Hedberg Public Library Foundation, Inc., was incorporated in 1980 and encourages gifts, bequests and endowments to the library. Donations of $500 and more are noted on the donor recognition wall in the upper lobby.
If you are considering a gift to the library, stop in the library administration office where someone will assist you. In the evening and on weekends, you may give your donation to staff at any of the public desks. They will fill out a gift form and get the appropriate information from you.
Financial contributions may be sent to:
Hedberg Public Library Foundation
316 S. Main St.
Janesville, WI 53545
A staff person may need to contact you for additional information.
If you have questions about gifts or bequests, call the Library Director at (608)758-6600.
