For adults
The library has a number of computer stations dedicated to the Internet in the Reference Department and in the Woodruff Training Lab when computer classes are not in session. Internet access is free.
Reservations are not needed, but a Hedberg Public Library card number is. The library's Internet use policy appears on-screen at the beginning of each Internet session.
Internet stations feature the Hedberg Public Library home page with links to many useful sites.
Downloading to your own floppy disk is supported.
Black and white printing is available from all Reference and Woodruff computer stations for 15 cents per page and color printing is available for 50 cents per page.
Reference staff provide brief introductory guidelines on an individual basis. More extensive instruction is offered in small group sessions in the library's computer lab. Click here for more information about computer training opportunities at the library.
E-mail and chat are available on the Internet computers. Staff can only provide limited assistance with e-mail. No help with chat is given.
The Hedberg Public Library's wireless network is available during all library hours for use by customers with wireless-ready laptop computers. Ask a librarian at the Reference Desk for the key number needed to access this network.
For children and teens
Children who are middle school age or younger are encouraged to access the Internet in the Children's Department. All children under age 18 must have written parental permission to use the Internet stations in the library. Children under age 11 are encouraged to be accompanied by an adult (over 18) while using the Internet. Before a child's first Internet session at the library, the child and parent must sign a permission form available at all service desks. Completed forms may be returned to the Children's Department, Reference, or Checkout. If you wish to use the Internet the same day you register, please take the form to Checkout prior to using the Internet. Library cards may be obtained at Checkout. A parent or guardian must be present with the child to sign the library card application for children under age 18. Staff may limit the amount of time an individual may use the Internet daily. As with books and other library materials, parents are responsible for helping their child select appropriate information on the Internet. Staff can provide only limited technical support.
