A601b Unattended Children

Policy Type

Last updated: September 2006

Hedberg Public Library encourages children and families to use its facilities. However, young children need constant supervision which the youth service’s department staff is unable to provide.

Responsibility for children using the library rests with the caregiver/guardian, not with library personnel.

Any child ages seven or younger must be directly supervised at all times by a responsible adult or caregiver at least 12 years old. Unattended children under age 8 or any child requiring repeated intervention by library staff or who are violating the Public Code may be asked to leave and library staff may contact the caregivers, guardians, or the police.
