GENERAL USE
The Hedberg Public Library requires that any user of the library’s internet agrees to the following guidelines: 

All users of electronic information resources are expected to use these resources in a responsible manner, consistent with the educational and informational purposes for which they are provided and to follow these rules and regulations. 

Responsible, ethical use of such resources includes the following: 

  • Using resources for educational, informational, and recreational purposes only: not for unauthorized, illegal or unethical purposes. 
  • Respecting the privacy of others by not misrepresenting oneself as another user; by not attempting to modify or gain access to files, passwords, or data belonging to others; by not seeking unauthorized access to any computer system or damaging or altering software components of any network or database. 
  • Further respecting the privacy of others using library computers by not interfering with their use. 
  • Refraining from sending, receiving, or displaying text or graphics which may reasonably be construed as obscene, or which disturb or disrupt the library use of other patrons. 
  • Viewing or sending child pornography is a federal offense, and police will be called. 

PRIVACY AND SECURITY Wisconsin State Statues Section 43.30 and Wisconsin Personal Information Practices Act (Sections 19.62 to 19.80) cover the confidentiality of library records. 

Users are responsible for their own computer safety while using internet access at Hedberg Public Library. 

Hedberg Public Library does not filter or screen any site, application, webpage, document, file or email for content, nor scan for malicious or potentially malicious software on personally owned devices. 

Other Wi-Fi networks that are not under the control of Hedberg Public Library may appear 

when users attempt to connect to the internet. Using caution is urged when connecting to any Wi-Fi access point. Public users may only connect to the public network via Wi-Fi or through designated network locations. 

OTHER CONDITIONS Internet access is available throughout the library and in the covered parking area. Internet users are expected to observe the same standards of acceptable library behavior as any other library users whenever they access the internet at the library, branch(s) or bookmobile. 

Because of the multitude of devices and device configurations, library staff can only offer limited support in configuring internet access for an internet enabled device including but not limited to: laptops, phones, eBook readers, gaming devices or music players. Further, library staff can only offer limited support with sites, applications (app) and locations on the internet as they are not under the control of Hedberg Public Library. 

Neither Hedberg Public Library nor the City of Janesville is responsible for any damage or loss occurred while accessing the internet at the library, branch(s) or bookmobile. 

Users experiencing problems with their personal equipment should contact the retailer or manufacturer for assistance. 

CONSEQUENCES OF NOT FOLLOWING THIS POLICY Violation of this policy will result in suspension of internet and library privileges.
